Okay. I know that you know your surname. But do you KNOW your surname?
I've come across an interesting site (via Digital Spy) that will give you a profile of your surname.
For example, I can tell you that as of 1998 my surname is most frequently found in the South / South West of England followed by North Wales, Northern England and the Midlands. Just to show how uncommon my surname is, there are only 16 people per million with the same name, occuring 590 times.
Just for comparison, in 1881 14 people per million shared my name, occuring 375 times. Back then, the name was mainly found in the South of England and the Isle of Wight. There was a small count in North Wales and slightly more to the North West of London.
If you're going to have a look at the site, be aware that at the time of writing it does seem to have some issues with traffic levels, but do keep trying. It's one of the useless pieces of information that is quite nice to know.
