The 2005 general election is now over, and Tony Blair and The Labour Party have won a historic third term in office. More's the pity I say. I was hoping they would loose. Even after all the problems this country has, no thanks to Labour, it seems there are still people who want to see them continue.
Still, it's not all bad. They only won by 3% of the popular vote - 36% to Labour, 33% to Conservative. The BBC have been estimating they will hold a 66 seat majority in the Commons once all constituencies have declared. This should mean they will have a lot more trouble passing legislation, which will fall under much more scrutiny from the opposition.
Talking of the opposition, the Liberal Democrats did well to win over 60 seats. They got my vote yesterday mainly for their plans for the replacement of the Council Tax system. My vote didn't make any difference though, since the Conservative MP Simon Burns held onto Chelmsford West. I'm not complaining about that though. Better than the seat turning red.

My vote did count in the County Council elections though. Chelmsford North was won by the Liberal Democrat candidate Tom Smith-Hughes with a majority of 550 votes over Delmas Ashford, the Conservative candidate. Congratulations and commiserations to those candidates, respectively.

Now I wonder if Mr. Blair will make a better job of his 3rd and finally term in office? Only time will tell.
